Basal squamules persistent or evanescent, 1–3 mm long, 0.5–1 mm diam., incised, occasionally sorediate on margins or densely granular-sorediate. Podetia growing from basal squamules, 1–4 cm tall, 0.5–3 mm diam., very variable, cylindrical or tapering, corticate, or corticate at base or lower half; cortex continuous or areolate; ecorticate areas coarsely granular-sorediate, or with corticate granules or squamules, often turning brown; scyphi present or absent, often irregular, with corticate interior, with or without proliferating margins; sterile podetia simple or sparingly branched, subulate or with narrow scyphi. Apothecia terminal on apices or on short, corticate proliferations on margins of scyphi, 0.2–2 mm diam., convex, brown to dark brown. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprototcetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids, ±homosekikaic (major) and sekikaic (trace) acids. | ||
